Three men charged with armed robbery and murder.

A 27-year-old man is dead and three men are charged with murder after an alleged deadly armed robbery on Otis Road in Hyannis Wednesday afternoon.

Police found Andrew Stanley of Hyannis shot to death at 30 Otis Road yesterday afternoon shortly after 1:30pm.

Police arrested Eddie Mack, 26, of Hyannis and Roxbury; Kieko Thomas, 20, of Hyannis; and David Evans, 26, of Boston. All three are charged with armed robbery and murder, police said.

Barnstable Police responded to calls of shots fired at the Otis residence. When they arrived on scene they heard more shots fired and found two males exiting the house and a third man fleeing, police said and Times reported.

After a pursuit, all three subjects were apprehended by Barnstable Police Detectives and Patrol Units.

A "witness saw police tackle a man near Luke's Super Liquor Store on Barnstable Road. All three suspects were arrested near the liquor store, which is about 200 yards from the home. Guns and money were recovered near where the suspects were arrested, O'Keefe said," the Cape Cod Times reported.

The Times also reported the Stanley's arms and legs were wrapped in duct tape.

The Times reported Barnstable Police used a Hyannis Fire Department ladder to search the roof of Luke's Liquors. Police did not say if they found anything.

All three will be brought to Barnstable District Court to be arraigned today.

The case remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department and the State Police Detectives Unit attached to the District Attorney’s Office, police said.

Three Ballot Questions Confirmed for Fall Election

The secretary of state's office Wednesday finalized the questions that will be put on this fall's ballot.

Though four questions had gathered enough signatures and met the deadlines to be placed on the ballot, one regarding teacher evaluation was resolved in the Legislature last month, leaving three for Secretary of State William Galvin to sign. They are:

  • A Law for the Humanitarian Medical Use of Marijuana: This intiative seeks to legalize the use and cultivation of marijuana as a medical drug. It calls for no penalties for "qualifying patients, physicians and health care professionals, personal caregivers for patients, or medical marijuana treatment center agents for the medical use of marijuana."
  • An Act Relative to Death with Dignity: This initiative would allow physicians to prescribe medication to terminally ill patients that would end their lives. The act would require that patients are mentally capable of making this decision and orally communicating it to a doctor on two occasions 15 days apart. Participation by a doctor or health care facility would be voluntary.
  • An Act to Protect Motor Vehicle Owners and Small Businesses in Repairing Motor Vehicles: This initiative would require all car manufacturers to provide – on an equitable fair-market value subscription basis – all diagnostic and repair information for model years beginning in 2015 to owners or an owner’s designated in-state independent repair facility (not affiliated with a manufacturer or its authorized dealers). The law would also make available for purchase information for model years 2002 through 2014.

Mary Richardson Kennedy's Body Exhumed, Moved in St. Xavier Cemetery

Mary Richardson Kennedy's new grave in St. Xavier Cemetery.

Mary Richardson Kennedy's body was exhumed last week and moved to a new, larger grave site in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, says a report by the New York Daily News.

Kennedy's body was originally laid to rest just outside of a circle of shrubs where Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Sargent Shriver are buried but was moved about 700 feet away to a larger section with room for relatives to be buried alongside her, according to the story.

Gravedigger Frank Maki told the Daily News that Robert Kennedy wanted her moved to an area where the Kennedy family is now negotiating to buy 50 plots.

“He (Robert) didn’t realize how crowded the area was until after the funeral, and he wanted to have the ability to lay his wife to rest among her family members,” Maki said. “He opted for an area of the cemetery where there is room for future expansion.”

Kennedy, 52, was the estranged wife of Robert Kennedy. She committed suicide in May on their estate in Bedford, New York.

Kennedy was found dead on her property May 16. She was married to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in 1994 but the coupled filed for divorce in 2010, shortly after Mary Kennedy encountered legal troubles involving prescription drugs and alcohol. They couple had four children together.

The cause of her death according to the Westchester County Medical Examiner was asphyxiation due to hanging. Her autopsy revealed her to have a normal amount of antidepressants but no alcohol in her bloodstream.

Since the release of the autopsy report, news outlets have speculated that Kennedy had second thoughts about committing suicide in her final moments because her fingers were caught between her neck and the noose when she died.

Her friends in Bedford remember her as a warm, caring and gracious individual. Read more of their remembrances here.

Made on Cape Cod: Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest

$

0
Limited Edition, Beach Plum Jelly.

“Debbie and I met through a mutual friend in the Harwich play group when our boys were just 3 years of age--they are now 19, and started a business together soon after” says Tina Labossiere of her now business partner Debbie Greiner.

Their journeys were not direct to small business ownership. Labossiere has a background in banking and Grenier once worked for the Philadelphia Stock Exchange. They both moved to Cape Cod with their husbands who were pursuing careers, and have lived here, raising their eight children between them, for over twenty years.

Their first business venture together was making Ballerina Bunnies- “they were cute stuffed bunnies that we would sew with different tutu's and costumes,” says Labossiere. After an acquaintance told the two of them they should make a food product for a craft show, they developed their first batch of homemade cranberry jellies, and Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest was born.

According to Labossiere, they “sold out of what we made the first day and had to make more for the second day....after a few more years of making bunnies and jelly, it became apparent that the jelly was going to be our future.”

The first product under the Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest brand was the red pepper jelly. Made with red and jalapeno peppers, it offers a kick for the spice lover, and Labossiere and Greiner say it is best served over cream cheese with crackers.

Currently, Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest, offers twenty one flavors year round, and beach plum seasonally. They are developing new flavors all the time and usually make a few new products each year. While experimenting a lot in the kitchen,”we might say, 'I wonder how cranberry-something would taste?'” And some of their ideas are suggested by their customers, family, and friends.

Their typical work day starts with loading the dish washer with jars and sterilizing them. They then prepare all of their other materials, such as sugar, pots, pectin, and prepare the berries by chopping them in the chopper. The ingredients are placed in one of the four pots on the stove. Greiner prepares the pots for cooking and Labossiere fills the jars with the jelly once it is boiled and ready. The jars are then left to cool. Once they are cooled and the jelly is set, Greiner puts the label on them.

They spend a lot of time selling their goods themselves at farmers markets, craft shows and festivals. Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest can also be found in about 50 retail locations, year round and seasonally. On the Cape the jellies are sold at Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis, the 1856 General Store in Centerville, CapeAbilities Farm and Farm to Table, Lambert's in Centerville, Harvest of Barnstable in South Yarmouth, and all Shaw's Supermarkets on the Cape as well as in their Wareham location. support.

Both Labossiere and Greiner find their business really rewarding and they are grateful for all of the success they have had, but it is not without its challenges. “Neither one of us have ever owned a business, so we have made some mistakes along the way,” says Labossiere, “but thankfully, we have learned from them and moved forward.”

One constant challenge is how to remain a “small” business while their business continues to grow. The customers “expect a homemade product, made with all natural ingredients and small batches,” and they always strive to make their customers satisfied.
