Hession is supportive of the conclave’s choice and said Bergoglio is a humble and holy man.
Bergoglio was ordained for the Jesuits in 1969 and is known for his humility and work for the poor.
When Bergoglio was appointed as a Cardinal in 2001 he encouraged Argentinians to forgo the trip to Rome and donate any money that would have been spent on the trip to the poor, according to the Guardian.
Hession said by choosing the name Francis the new Pope is making a statement.
“For the fist time in history a Pope chose the name Francis, it shows he understands the need for reform,” Hession said.
Bergoglio also makes history as the first Latin American Pope.
“I am sure there is great celebrating in Buenos Aries,” Hession said.
