The following was provided by the Yarmouth Police Department.

The Yarmouth Police Department working together with the Yarmouth Health Department and the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod will be hosting an Overdose Protection Hour in the Community Room at Yarmouth Police Headquarters this Saturday, March 30, 2013 starting at 10:00AM.

AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod Prevention and Screening Director Max Sandusky, Harm Reduction Manager Donna Mello, and Community Outreach Specialist Stewart Catchings will conduct the training at no cost.

Opioid overdose is one of the leading causes of death in Massachusetts. Some examples of opioids include Heroin, Methadone, Fentanyl, and Morphine. In order to save lives, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is conducting this pilot project statewide to distribute a medication called nasal naloxene (Narcan) that can reverse an opioid overdose.  Narcan blocks the opioids and restores normal breathing when sprayed into the nose of someone who has overdosed.  It is safe, easy to administer and has no potential for abuse.

This special free and open to anyone in the public life saving training will be completed in less than one hour.

All citizens and families of Cape Cod are urged to come to Yarmouth Police Headquarters, receive the free training and Narcan kit, and help save a life of someone that you love.
