1. We catch a break. The National Weather Service says to expect partly sunny skies with a high temperature of 75 degrees and a light wind off Cape Cod Bay. A low temperature of 65 overnight with no worry about the windows leaking - just perfect.

2. Word of the week - promession. A neologism meaning a green way of disposing of human remains by freeze drying the body into crystals. A Swedish biologist has patented this opposite of cremation.

3. This day in 1901, a 28 year old anarchist shot two bullets into the chest of U.S. President William McKinley. The anarchist met the President in a hand-shaking line at the PanAmerican Exhibition in Buffalo, New York. As the former Ohio Governor slumped to the ground, he said, “Be careful how you tell my wife.” He died of gangrene September 12. His Vice President, Theodore Roosevelt, swore the oath of office that day. McKinley, a Republican, conducted the Spanish-American War, defeating the former world power and beginning what’s been called “The American Century.” In the How Things Change Department, two sports leagues competed for prominence that year, crossing the country in trains to growing crowds - professional baseball and professional roller polo. Ah, roller polo. It lingered longer than McKinley, but not by much.

4. The Centerville Library presents Story Hour this morning from 9:30 to 10:45. Quick registration is recommended by calling 508-790-6220.

5. The Falmouth Historical Society has two new exhibits on presidential campaigns on the Town Green at the east end of Main Street.
