Members of the Barnstable Street Crime Unit, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations and Barnstable District Court Officers began investigating a scheme that they believe put drugs into the hands of inmates.
Police believe Samantha Best, 27, of Centerville would bring drugs to Barnstable District Court and deliver them to a prisoner who was scheduled for a court appearance, according to a press release.
The prisoner would then bring the drugs back to the Barnstable House of Correction for his own personal use and in some cases sell them to other prisoners.
Police are withholding the prisoner’s name and relationship to Best because the investigation is still ongoing.
During the investigation officers caught Best handing the prisoner a plastic bag containing 13 pills on video.
When police searched Best at the courthouse they recovered 1 Suboxone, 4 Clonazepam, and 8 Seroquel pills.
Best was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to distribute class B, class C, and class E narcotics. Best was arraigned and held on $10,000 cash bail and is currently at the Barnstable House of Correction.
The investigation is still ongoing. Additional charges may be filed against Best and the prisoner as the case unfolds.
