Families wishing to add a little literary boost to their childrens' summertime fun can register their children for this year's summer reading program, "Dig Into Reading," starting June 21, according to the Hyannis Public Library.
Kindergarten through eighth-grade students can participate in the program, which runs until Aug. 9.
The goal is to encourage children to read, even if it's 15 minutes a day, according to the library website. Children will receive a folder with a time log record sheet.
"Dig Into Reading" is sponsored by local libraries, the Massachusetts Regional Library Systems, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, according to the West Falmouth Library.
Mark your calendars: The seven Barnstable libraries collaborative summer kick-off event, "Dig Up Clues At the Library," will be at 10 a.m. on June 24 in the Osterville Village Green. The event features a magic show with Greg McAdams and his dog, Axel.
