1. The National Weather Service says to expect a high of 75 degrees. A gentle breeze will blow in from over the Elizabeth Islands. We’ll have a slight chance of showers tonight, with a low of 59 degrees.
2. Word of the day : Copts. This Greek word referred to a Christian group that dominated Egypt in the 4th to 6th centuries, until the Muslim conquest of Egypt. They call themselves Sahidic. The news media today identifies them as Coptic Christians.
3. This day in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office on the death of William McKinley. He would, “bully”, champion the cause of the Progressives.
4. Summer’s over. If you have spare time, please find a cause to volunteer for.
5. Attempting to mediate an argument a few days ago among some younger people who professed love, I heard myself say, “No one wins an argument, that’s a debate term. Life is not a debate. Don’t waste your precious time.” Those people whose names appear in the Barnstable police log every day, charged with domestic assault and battery, likely will not read this, and if they do, will likely ignore this message. I’ve spent hundreds of hours reporting from courts in several jurisdictions. In my short time in Barnstable, I’ve noticed an unusually high number of reported domestic disputes. Needless. So, if you know someone who you think can hear this, please say to them, no one wins an argument that way.
