1. The National Weather Service says to expect sunny skies with a high of 70 degrees and a light wind crossing Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth. It’s flannel sheet time, with an overnight low of 49.
2. Word of the Day: thrillax. Tourists have trended to a preference for experience over shopping. Now we have a word for it. It means combining thrills with relaxation, physical fitness on vacation, stimulate and relax.
3. Massachusetts opposed ratification of the U.S. Constitution. Not every delegate attended the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention and of the 41 present in Philadelphia this day in 1787, three voted against the document. The proposed replacement for the Articles of Confederation created a strong federal government, but did not yet include the amendments now known as the Bill of Rights. June 21, 1788, New Hampshire became the ninth of 13 states to ratify the document and it became law.
4. Today begins Car-Free Week in Massachusetts. The state encourages walking, biking, mass transit, at least car-pooling through September 23’d. World Car-Free Day happens September 22nd.
5. Cassandra: Places I’ve Never Been & People I’ve Never Met, begins its first full week in the Hyannis Harbor Arts Center at 250 South Street, Hyannis. The exhibit of this emerging artist combines landscapes and portraits.
