Barnstable police were investigating two residential break-ins Thursday morning on Walnut St. and Oak St. in Hyannis when a nearby neighbor called to report a man peaking into a sliding door in the back of a home on Spruce St. Officers brought in a K9 to help locate the suspect, according to a press release.

During the search officers heard a woman screaming on Lewis Rd. and saw a man fleeing from the area. After chasing the suspect on foot officers found Ethan Woodward, 22, of Hyannis on Baxter Rd.

Police believe Woodward broke into homes on Oak St., Walnut St., Spruce St. and Pilgrim Rd. Police allege Woodward also threw a brick a bedroom window of a home on Lewis Rd. where a woman was sleeping. The woman was cut by pieces of the broken window and was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment.

Police found Woodward’s bike behind one of the homes broken into on Spruce St. and also identified his footprints outside of several homes that were broken into.

Woodward was taken to the Barnstable Police Department where officers found stolen jewelry hidden under his clothing. Several victims identified the jewelry as items that were stolen from their homes.

Woodward was charged with 6 counts of felony breaking and entering daytime, 3 counts of injury to real or personal property, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Woodward was currently out on $5,000 bail for a past breaking and entering charge and was due in court Thursday afternoon. Woodward will be arraigned this morning in Barnstable District Court and is currently being held on $10,000 bail.
