The incident occurred when Mark R. Jones, 51, of Centerville went to Cape Cod Community College this morning to register for a spring class, according to a press release. Jones became irate when he was told the class was already full, he then asked a college employee to give him the names of students enrolled in the class so he could shoot them to make room.
The employee ended the conversation with Jones and he left the building. While Jones was leaving another employee told police she overheard Jones say something about getting a shotgun.
Barnstable Police sent six cruisers to the school; after a complete search officers determined Jones had left school grounds. Police then went to Jones’ home in Centerville where according to police he admitted to making the threat, but said it was only a joke. Jones also told police he was an army veteran and that he does not own any guns.
Jones voluntarily went with the officers to the Barnstable Police Department where he was arrested and charged with threat to commit a crime and disturbing a school assembly. Jones was arraigned in Barnstable District Court.
