Congressman Bill Keating defeated Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter for the Democratic nomination for the newly-drawn 9th Massachusetts District.
Sutter conceded the race, calling Keating's campaign around 9 p.m., according to WATD.
Keating will face Republican Adam Chaprales, who defeated Christopher Sheldon by 47 votes for the Republican nomination. Sheldon is a Plymouth resident. Chapreles lives in Barnstable.
Keating told WATD from his primary night headquarters said that the next five weeks will be difficult ones.
“We’re hitting the streets, going back to DC office Monday, and we'll be there for parts of next five weeks," Keating said. "It will be a challenge to do the job there and still get out in the district."
Keating said his campaign will focus on what he's done over the past two years. "We’re telling people what we’ve done in this unbelievably difficult environment. We've created 10,000 jobs in this district."
He said the Thursday primary, rather than the traditional Tuesday “threw people off," and many did not know the primary was today. Across the state the turnout was about 13 percent.
Keating also said that the lack of local races kept people away.
Chaprales declined to speak to any reporters Thursday night. He said he would have a speech Friday.
Here are the unofficial results, according to Boston.com. They do not include results from Middleborough or Dartmouth.
